Abstract. In sequential estimation methods often used in oceanic and general climate calculations of the state forecasts, observations act mathematically statistically as source or sink terms conservation equations for heat, salt, mass, momentum. These artificial obscure inference system's variability secular changes. Furthermore, purposes calculating changes important functions variables such total mass energy volumetric current transports, results both filter smoother-based estimates are sensitive to misrepresentation a large variety parameters, including initial conditions, prior uncertainty covariances, systematic random errors observations. Here, toy models coupled mass–spring oscillator system barotropic Rossby wave demonstrate many issues that arise from misrepresentations. Results Kalman those finite interval smoothing analyzed. (and prediction) problem, entry data leads violation other invariant rules. A method restores rules, but uncertainties all remain. Convincing trend time-dependent determinations “reanalysis-like” require full understanding models, observations, underlying error structures. Application smoother-type designed optimal reconstruction alleviate some issues.

II.21 Invariants and Conservation Laws
The inclusion principle (2) enables us to capture continuous properties of a function, using only a finite number of operations. Its most important use is to explicitly bound discretization errors that naturally arise in numerical algorithms. As an example, consider the function f(x) = cos3 x+ sinx on the domain x = [−5,5]. For any decomposition of the domain x into a finite set of subintervals...

We prove that potential conservation laws have characteristics depending only on local variables if and only if they are induced by local conservation laws. Therefore, characteristics of pure potential conservation laws have to essentially depend on potential variables. This statement provides a significant generalization of results of the recent paper by Bluman, Cheviakov and Ivanova [J. Math....

متن کاملPotential comparison and asymptotics in scalar conservation laws without convexity
Two kinds of optimal convergence orders in L1-norm to a self-similar solution are proved or conjectured for various evolutionary problems so far. The first convergence order is of the magnitude of the similarity solution itself and the second one is of order 1/t . Employing a potential comparison technique to scalar conservation laws we may easily see that these asymptotic convergence orders ar...
متن کاملUniversal uncertainty principle and quantum state control under conservation laws
Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, exemplified by the γ ray thought experiment, suggests that any finite precision measurement disturbs any observables noncommuting with the measured observable. Here, it is shown that this statement contradicts the limit of the accuracy of measurements under conservation laws originally found by Wigner in 1950s, and should be modified to correctly derive the u...
